SUBJ: 2011 MILITARY CHILD OF THE YEAR
1. OPERATION HOMEFRONT HAS ANNOUNCED THE OPENING OF THE NOMINATION
PERIOD FOR THE 2011 MILITARY CHILD OF THE YEAR AWARD. THIS AWARD WILL
BE GIVEN TO AN OUTSTANDING MILITARY CHILD FROM EACH SERVICE,
INCLUDING, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE COAST GUARD. THE AWARD RECIPIENTS
WILL EACH RECEIVE 5,000 DOLLARS AND WILL BE FLOWN WITH A PARENT OR
GUARDIAN TO WASHINGTON, DC, FOR A SPECIAL RECOGNITION CEREMONY ON
APRIL 7, 2011.
2. THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF AMERICAN SERVICE MEMBERS LEARN WHAT
PATRIOTISM IS AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. CHILDREN IN MILITARY FAMILIES
UNDERSTAND SACRIFICE AND LIVE WITH THE CONCEPT OF SERVICE. THIS IS
WHAT THE MILITARY CHILD OF THE YEAR AWARD HONORS.
3. IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR THE MILITARY CHILD OF THE YEAR AWARD
DEMONSTRATE RESILIENCE AND STRENGTH OF CHARACTER AND THRIVE IN THE
FACE OF THE CHALLENGES OF MILITARY LIFE. THEY DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP
WITHIN THEIR FAMILIES AND WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
4. NOMINEES MUST:
A. HAVE A VALID MILITARY ID CARD AND BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN
DEERS.
B. BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 8 AND 18.
C. BE ABLE TO TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON, DC, FOR A CEREMONY ON APRIL 7,
2011.
5. NOMINATIONS FOR THIS AWARD ARE BEING ACCEPTED THROUGH JANUARY 31,
